Colorstream T10-01 Powder
Viola Fantasy - Approx 6-10 grams
Mix with PU for a fantastic finish!
Colorstream® pigments are based on synthetically manufactured SiO2 (silicone dioxide) platelets that are coated with metal oxides.
This creates iridescent interference colour effects, providing a soft flowing transition from one colour to another according to how light is reflected from the surface. The effect is subtle on light substrates and glorious on dark ones! A very fine powder.
5-50 µm rutile.
At last, a professional finish can be achieved for your project!
One thing usually missing from Design & Technology resources is the opportunity to use the same special effects pigments that are used by industry.
So Stuff4Schools has teamed up with Merck, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial pigments to bring you their superb range of pigments, as used right across industries worldwide, from automotive paints, cosmetics, chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, printing and packaging.
Although some are hugely expensive, we can supply them to you in very affordable and useful amounts, ideal for your D&T projects. At this price, you can afford to experiment with different colours, effects and combinations and create an appealing finished product that is truly relevant to today’s markets and technologies.
Low-tech ways to apply a high tech finish.
Our Special Effect pigments are supplied in powder form and can be mixed with our PolymerKit PU resins for casting, but we have created a really easy and economical way of applying them as a surface finish for small items.
1. Mask your product as appropriate or leave unmasked for an overall surface coverage.
2. Spray lightly and evenly with our 3M Spray Adhesive.
3. Apply the special effects powder over the sprayed surface. You can use a soft make-up brush such as a blusher brush, or if you have enough powder the object can be dipped into it. Lightly brush off any excess loose powder and you will have a nice, even coverage.
4. Seal in with one or more coats of an appropriate clear spray varnish or laquer.
You can repeat the above steps using different powders and masks to create a complex design.
Image shows the difference between the powder being applied to a white spherical ball on the left and black spherical ball on the right. The effects gained from applying them to different coloured substrates can be dramatically different. It's great fun to experiment!
